About Calm Life Therapies

Calm Life, Free Mind

About me

I have been interested in people and discovering what makes each of us happy for as long as I can remember. After a number of failed relationships and a messy divorce, I wanted to learn more about myself and how to stop repeating past mistakes. I took a course in counselling for beginners and a self-awareness journey began. As part of this, I enlisted myself to experienced all of the therapies that I use on others today, and discovered the power and benefit from them all.  Many training courses later and 20 years of working with families, individuals, couples and young people, I have gained a lot insight, understanding how to achieve a happy and calm life even throughout it's inevitable challenges. Providing support and therapy to others has allowed me to see people grow in confidence, take new challenges and make positive change, and this is a true joy to me.

Life can be a challenge for all, including myself. On my journey, I have learnt that in order to maintain a healthy emotional state, we must always make an mindful effort to do so. For example, in order to keep our bodies fit we need to workout and eat a balanced diet, this also applies to our emotional health. In order to keep it balanced we need to be aware of our thoughts and feelings. Seeing a therapist and learning some techniques to use in our everyday lives can support this and help us live our best lives.

Whatever your individual challenges are, I can help. In previous roles, I have worked with:

  • families who's loved ones were addicted to drugs and/or alcohol

  • children and teenagers with learning/emotional difficulties

  • dysfunctional families

  • people suffering from depression and anxiety

My techniques
I have tried and tested many therapies myself over the years, and chose to train and use the ones that I found most effective. I have trained in Psychodynamic Counselling, Hypnotherapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Life Coaching.

Each work well on their own, and I am able to access each case and use one or a combination of therapies to gain the best results.

Everyday struggles and pressures can often feel overwhelming and begin to cause us anxiety or low mood, and before we know it, we are stuck in a rut. Passed traumas of any kind; physical, emotional, sexual can all leave their mark and influence how we are now. Communication with loved ones may dismantle and relationships start to break down. In our therapy sessions we can work together to overcome the negative impact these emotional challenges.

I am able to offer you the time, space, and tools to start to explore and change those things in your life that you feel are holding you back or keeping you stuck.

Hypnotherapy

Many people may have seen hypnotherapy used on stage, where the therapist puts someone into a trance. This is not hypnotherapy in Calm Life Therapies. My hypnotherapy clients remain totally in control throughout a session. As the therapist I will use techniques to allow the client to be fully relaxed in order to work together to achieve desired outcomes. It is a safe and drug-free alternative to medical intervention, but can also be used alongside medical intervention.

Hypnotherapy is not advisable to use on those who have psychosis or certain types of personality disorder.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Similar to acupuncture, EFT works on the meridians and acupressure points. EFT does not use needles, gentle tapping is used instead. Based on Chinese’s medicine, meridian points are thought of as areas of the body that energy flows through. Overtime negative energy can build up in the body. EFT can support releasing this blocked energy and help it to flow more effectively. Negative emotions and thought patterns are believed to influence disease, sickness or body pain, therefore therapies such as EFT can be highly effective in improving physical as well as mental health.

Life Coaching

Working together to set goals and create proactive steps to live the life you want. This technique encourages a client’s self-discovery and personal growth.
